Sun in Aquarius ignites humanitarian principles and causes

On January 20, the sun entered the fixed, air sign of Aquarius, the “water-bearer”. Symbolized by a man pouring water (consciousness) upon the world from a large urn, Aquarius brings awareness to humanity. People born with the sun, moon, or rising sign in Aquarius are natural communicators who happily share their insights and wisdom with everyone. Aquarians’ broad love for humanity leads them to join humanitarian causes, sometimes ignoring their own needs, for the good of the group. They may also be seem somewhat aloof, as their energy is often wrapped up in various causes and crusades, leaving less attention for their personal relationships. Believing deeply in their own philosophy, Aquarians can hold rigid opinions and do not appreciate being challenged. If you love an Aquarian, give them plenty of space, believe in their causes, and only challenge their principles if you are prepared for a very long, possibly unrewarding discussion in which the fallacy of your viewpoint will be thoroughly examined.

January 22 new moon brought love relationships under review

Aquarians are the visionaries who point the way for humanity, showing us the future, reminding and inspiring us to see the highest in all. While the sun transits Aquarius from January 20 until February 18, we are offered an expanded view of the possibilities, not only in our own lives, but for all. On January 22, there was a new moon in Aquarius, which awakened our higher vision, but also challenged us to address issues in our most intimate relationships. Once the difficulties we experience in love are brought to the surface and held to the light of soul-awareness, we find that resolving those issues becomes our springboard to heightened consciousness.

Mars cycle brings revision of our work, profession or business

The planet of action, Mars, which symbolizes the type of work we do, turns retrograde in Virgo (apparent backwards motion) on January 23. Every two years, Mars retrogrades for approximately 11-12 weeks, giving us an opportunity to do some “housecleaning” regarding our work life, profession, or business. During this period we may experience our productivity slowing; consider it necessary for the purpose of gaining perspective, learning from the previous cycle, identifying course-corrections and changes that may be needed. For the majority of us, this is not a good time to launch a new product, start a new career, open a new business, or do any kind of major business expansion. Mars retrogrades in Virgo all of February. Use this period to analyze the work you do in the world. You may ask the big questions, about life-purpose and personal satisfaction, or simply, review your systems and processes, or your choices in the way you work and the quality of contribution you make. Take the time to gain clarity on the direction you wish your work or business to take for the next two years: you may need a few meetings, or schedule a retreat to look more deeply at the big picture. This is also a good time to do market analysis, research career options, or test new products and inventions, but it is not a conducive time to actually implement major changes, until mid-April.

Plans for growth and expansion are tempered by Saturn

During the first week of February, Saturn, the great taskmaster and “lord of karma”, now in Libra, the sign of relationships, remains in a tense opposition with expansive Jupiter in Taurus. Continuing until mid-month, this aspect can feel like driving with one foot on the brake. Yet, this can be just the tempering we need to help us slow down enough to do the valuable assessment called for by retrograde Mars. We may have grand plans for growth and expansion, but we need to do need further assessment, research, and development before we can burst on the scene with our new plans in full flight. Saturn turns retrograde in Libra on February 7, underscoring our need to take things slowly, assess, reassess, and build new innovations patiently and correctly.

Full moon reveals dichotomies, lights way to find balance

Also on February 7, we have a full moon in Leo, opposite the sun in Aquarius. The full moon reveals tension between the part of us that wishes to make a contribution and work for the good of the whole, with the part that wants personal gratification and individual recognition. This need not be a contest with a winner and a loser. Ideally, we work with inner dichotomies to reach am equitable balance, which then supports our growth in wisdom and promotes greater effectiveness.

In cupids’ month, the planet of love gets test of fire

From February 5 until the 21, the planet of love and beauty, Venus, squares Pluto. Symbolizing our need at some point on the path of self-development, to take quantum leaps from one state of consciousness to the next, transformational Pluto leaves no stone unturned in its pursuit of cleansing, healing and transforming old unwanted patterns. While Venus travels at a right angle (“square”) aspect to Pluto, our love life and financial values come under scrutiny, and we are motivated to toss unwanted and unrewarding patterns into the fire of transformation. Pluto brings rebirth, and its aspect to Venus surfaces anything in need of healing regarding money and love, but also promises the renewal of our values.

Positive planetary aspects light our way to self-realization

Bringing our values into perspective and empowering our dreams, expansive Jupiter in Taurus trines Pluto in Capricorn all month. As this aspect continues to build in March, our vision becomes more and more clear, and our current path for actualization begins to materialize. A similarly positive and long-running aspect between Saturn and Neptune/Chiron adds high spiritual vision and brings inspiration, making the middle of February a potent time for receiving spiritual clarity and seeing the pathways for establishing new forms of expression, new processes and procedures, and new products or talents.

New moon in Pisces opens doorway to inner truth and peace

On February 18, the sun exits Aquarius and begins its transit of the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces, ruled by Neptune. As we enter the nebulous yet compelling domain of the mystical sign, Pisces, we are inspired to seek the wisdom of our Soul. On February 21, we have a new moon in Pisces, which joins Neptune and Chiron, setting the tone for the coming four weeks to include a mystical journey that seeks divine wisdom to guide our choices and values. The empowering energy of Jupiter and Pluto embrace this planetary grouping and provide the inspiration and motivation for a complete breakthrough and entirely new creative pulse. Utilize this energy to align yourself with the highest, divine source within, and begin to experience a quality of peace and assuredness that only inner truth can deliver.

“Best Days” for February, 2012 (All times stated are PST)

The following dates are given as general suggestions, useful in planning work, career, or business activities. For individualized guidance on your own personal choices, consult a professional astrologer.

Since we begin the month with the planet of action, Mars, in retrograde motion, there are no stellar days for launching a new endeavor, starting a business, introducing a new product or service, or beginning a new job. While Mars is retrograde, review and complete existing projects, and do planning for future actions. Fortunately, there are a few excellent days for strategic planning:

February 8 is the best, with a brief time-out between 8:40-9:35am, PST. The next really good days are February 15, 16, and 19. Feb. 3 and 10 can be included in this group, after 11 am and 12 pm PST, respectively. Next best days are: February 7, 9, and 11, and 20-22 (with the exception of a small window between 8:15-9:35am on Feb. 21). February 26-27, and the morning of the 28 will also yield great results. Use the above dates for reviewing past performance, creating new goals and conducting strategic planning sessions, but wait to launch any new business offerings until after mid-April.

The remaining days in February are best spent reviewing existing endeavors or programs, doing more routine work, improving business systems, and completing unfinished projects.
